Research regarding landslides, earthquakes, tsunamis

Spotted some interesting article links and discussion on the Pacific Northwest Seismic Network (ThePNSN) group on Facebook this week. One article details recent research about how earthquakes may trigger landslides in West Seattle and other Seattle-area neighborhoods. The other describes how an underwater landslide may trigger a tsunami and may have exacerbated the 2011 earthquake-generated tsunami in Japan. We have linked to these from our West Seattle Be Prepared  Facebook group (which now has 485 members – join us there!).

Here are links to the articles for those of you who aren’t on Facebook.

KIRO TV story – Major Seattle quake could trigger thousands of landslides

The Planet Earth Blog – An underwater landslide may have exacerbated the 2011 tsunami in Japan.

You can find the Pacific Northwest Seismic Network blog here. Their associated Facebook group (linked above) offers more immediate insights and comments from experts, but both are awesome resources!
